The Cert II - What you'll actually do
The Certificate II in Construction Pathways (CPC20220) is the primary VETiS qualification. One day per week during school terms for one year. Online theory at school, hands-on practical sessions with real tools and materials. We supply everything - you just need steel cap boots.

Under 25? Your Cert III trade apprenticeship training is fully subsidised
In Queensland, school-based apprentices are exempt from paying student co-contribution fees towards their training.
And the good news continues for eligible students moving from a school-based apprenticeship to a full-time apprenticeship, under the Queensland Government's Free Apprenticeships U25s program you pay zero out-of-pocket training costs.
After successfully completing your apprenticeship, you'll become a fully qualified tradesperson.
With further industry experience and qualifications, you can progress into leadership roles such as Licensed Trade Contractor, Site Supervisor or Builder, managing projects, leading teams and even running your own business.

What is a typical career pathway in construction?
VET in School
CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways is offered to secondary school students through a general training pathway. A great introductory qualification for students to learn basic skills and safety knowledge before seeking a job in the construction industry. This qualification is not a pre-requisite for an apprenticeship, but equivalent units completed under this qualification can be credit transferred to a Certificate III qualification.
Apprenticeship
While employed as an apprentice in the trade of choice, apprentices undertake the Certificate III qualification relevant to their trade. Apprentices can be employed as school-based, part-time or full-time. Generally, an apprenticeship takes 4 years to complete, longer if part-time or school-based. School-based apprentices convert to part-time or full-time once they have completed their senior year or earlier if they drop out of school.
Qualified tradesperson and beyond
On completion of an apprenticeship, apprentices become full qualified tradesperson in their chosen trade. With further industry experience and qualifications, they can progress into leadership roles such as Licensed Trade Contractor, Site Supervisor or Builder, managing projects, leading teams and even running their own business.
What does the Certificate II in Construction Pathways look like?

What does a school-based apprenticeship look like?
- Employed as a school-based apprentice with an employer in the relevant trade
- Minimum one day per week on the job site during school terms - the rest of their schooling is unaffected
- Working during school holidays
- Online theory completed through Inscope's learning platform
- Practical training sessions supervised by qualified, Working with Children checked trainers
- Real-time progress tracking - see exactly how they're going, anytime
What does it cost?
For eligible students: nothing.
General Training Pathway
CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways training is fully subsidised under the Queensland Government's VETiS General Training Pathway for eligible students. For students not eligible for VETiS funding, the fee for service cost is $2,500.00 (GST free.)
Students who complete this qualification can find work in the construction industry as an apprentice, trades assistant, administration etc.
Apprenticeship Pathway
If your child finds employment as a school-based apprentice, their training is fully subsidised by the Queensland Government. When your child completes or leaves school they convert to a full-time or part-time apprenticeship. Full-time and part-time apprenticeship training is also fully subsidised for eligible students under 25, through the Free Apprenticeships for U25s program.

Do I need experience?
Zero. Interest in working with your hands is all you need.
What do I need to bring?
Steel cap boots and laptop (if delivered at school). Everything else - tools, materials, resources, hi-vis shirt - is supplied by Inscope.
Will it affect my other subjects?
Speak to your School VET Coordinator as to how your other subjects can work around the Cert II or school-based apprenticeship.
What happens when I finish?
On successful completion you'll receive a Statement of Attainment, QLD White Card (if elective chosen) and up to 4 QCE Points. We can help you find an apprenticeship.
Is it available in my area?
We deliver to students in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Hervey Bay. At your training centres or at your school. Contact us to confirm.

Is there a cost?
Not for eligible students.
Our Certificate II in Construction Pathways course is fully subsidised under the Queensland Government VETiS program.
School-based apprenticeship training is fully subsidised for eligible students under the Queensland Government's Career Start program, with no student contribution fees to pay. After completing school, apprentices can transition to a full-time or part-time apprenticeship and continue to access subsidised training through the Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s program.
Is the qualification nationally recognised?
Yes. CPC20220 Certificate II in Construction Pathways is on the Australian Qualifications Framework. Inscope is a registered training organisation (RTO 40926), regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).
Who supervises my child?
Qualified and experienced Inscope trainers hold Working with Children Checks and relevant industry licences.
What are the short courses?
Inscope also offers standalone White Card (CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry), First Aid (HLTAID011 Provide first aid) and CPR (HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation) courses for students who want industry credentials.

What programs can Inscope deliver at our school?
The Certificate II in Construction Pathways (CPC20220), and standalone short courses including White Card (CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry), First Aid (HLTAID011 Provide first aid) and CPR (HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation) can be delivered at your school if your school has appropriate facilities. What funding is available?
Our Certificate II in Construction Pathways course is funded under the Queensland Government VETiS program for eligible students.
School-based apprenticeship training is fully subsidised for eligible students under the Queensland Government's Career Start program.
Our standalone short courses are not funded. These are fee for service. Contact us to discuss costs.
Can we offer short courses alongside the Cert II?
Yes. White Card, First Aid and CPR can be delivered as standalone courses to any student, whether they're enrolled in the Certificate II or not.
